ShayKay's Review of Hard Eight by Janet Evanovich

Hard Eight by Janet Evanovich

6425

Synopsis From Audible

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has a 7-year-old child Annie Soder and her mother, Evelyn, have disappeared. Evelyn's estranged husband, Steven, is not happy. He and Evelyn signed a child custody bond, and Steven wants the bond money to search for Annie. The money was secured by a mortgage on Evelyn's grandmother's house, and the True Blue Bonds' agency wants to take possession of it. Finding a kidnapped child is not Stephanie's thing. But Evelyn's grandmother lives next door to Stephanie's parents, and their not about to see a neighbor lose her house because I'd an abduction.

Stephanie follows Annie and Evelyn's trial - and finds a lot more than she bargained for. Steven is somehow linked with the very scary Eddie Abruzzi. Trenton cop and on-again, off-again fiance Joe Morelli, and Stephanie's mentor Ranger enter the scene and because Stephanie needs Ranger's expertise, she accepts his help - even though it means paying some past debts.

Stephanie, Ranger, Lula, and Evelyn's lawyer/laundromat manager set out to find Annie. The search becomes a race among Stephanie posse, The True Blue Bonds' agency, and Abruzzi's crew. And did we mention there's a killer rabbit on the loose?

Thoughts Before Reading

I've been wanting to get back into this series for a while now. I feel like I started this series around the same time that I started the In Death series by JD Robb and even though I really liked the first Stephanie Plum book I just stopped reading them and continued on with my Robb obsession. I did read about 8 books and I stopped on 9 in the series and I really liked 8 however I don't know if I remember it all so I've decided to give the book a second chance on Audible and see how it goes this time around.

Halfway Through The Book

****SPOILERS****

I can definitely hear parts of this book and I get deja vu because I've definitely read it before. But I'm so much more engaged with the book this time around. I can't stop laughing. And this is the book where Stephanie finally sleeps with Ranger. And he's like babe you needs go back to Morelli! This love triangle really leaves me laughing because they are so funny. Plum is definitely very problematic, she's already gone through 3 cars in this book, for those of you who do not know Stephanie isn't the greatest bounty hunter but she tries. I don't know who I want her to end up with. I find myself rooting for both men throughout the whole series. I really love the part where Ranger told Stephanie that Morelli is husband material and she needs to make up with him!

Thoughts After Reading

****SPOILERS****

Finally finished Hard Eight! It sounds like I've been on it a really long time but I literally just started it a couple of weeks ago. This time around I did choose to go with an audiobook, which I'm so glad that I did! I've always found the series funny, but I've had a hard time staying with this series. It is rather on the long side, I think the newest one is book 25.

Stephanie Plum is a hot mess! I love her because she is that hot mess. I loved how she finally got to explore more into the Ranger side of her love triangle. He definitely cares about her but doesn't show it in a normal way, instead it is definitely a protective way like installing her security system and letting her use his cars. Morelli was there but not there. I found it pretty funny that he kept trying to act all cool and aloof but the second he heard anything going on with Steph he made sure to be there and check on her. I agree with Ranger she needs to work out her whole situation with him, and deep down I think she agrees to because she even mentions how she is probably going to marry him one day! But knowing this realization I think really spooked Stephanie. I definitely want to continue on with series hopefully soon! But good news I already own the next book! So it should be fairly soon, I'm just juggling a bunch of different books! If you guys only saw how many books that I have to read, I cataloged them the other day and let's just say it's bad ya'll!
